WordPress Timer Stop

Four steps, four days for marketing yourself as a Consultant
The current economy has turned a lot of valuable employees on consultants. You have lots of expertise, you know there are companies that can use, and you want to start your own consulting business. The problem is that you is an engineer, an operations manager, financial analyst, a technical writer ... No salesman.
At this point I have realized that marketing yourself as a consultant requires specific actions - that is definitely not a case of "If you build it they will come." Fear not, I have some ideas for help you establish your reputation as an expert, get your name out there and start building your consulting business by the end of the week!
Day # 1 - Marketing Plan
You do not have to spend weeks developing their business or marketing plan, and you not have to pay someone to do it for you. The real value of developing a solid plan is the way makes you think through different scenarios, competition and the product that you offer. A great plan will also stay on track as you build your business and should be considered a working document - edit and change the frequency according necessary.
Respond to each of the following questions in writing, and please do not take more than 15 minutes.
Who is your customer ideal? Consider the size of the company, industry, for profit or not. This is the absolute ideal, not a list of any company that might be able to use their services. Describe what you want to work. Focused marketing to pay much more than a shotgun approach.
What work you want to do? Similar to the first question, describe your dream job. If you wish, you can create a separate description for the secondary job.
How do you work? Telecommuting on the site, or a combination? Do You like to travel?
Why you want your ideal client? Describe your skills basic and how they are different from the average consultant.
Now you need to turn around - What type of business the customer does not want work? What job do not want to do? Why did not want to work?
Day # 2 - Your Resume
You have to put a little time for the presentation of their experience and core competencies in a couple of different ways. First, start with your standard resume. There is much material available on creating a great resume and you will not spend time on that topic. Once the resume is complete, create the following three complementary elements:
- A single sheet
- Online Bio
- Elevator Speech
A sheet is marketing a warranty on his consulting business, designed to arouse the reader's interest. Where your resume is a professional document legal and describes in detail where they have been, to a summary sheet where it goes. Use the present tense, bullets, lots of white space. Your One sheet should be able to be read or scanned in a very short amount of time and provide a brief description of your talent.
Then go to distill his marketing message to 30-second statement that speaks to their value proposition. Your elevator speech is not its job. When someone asks what you do and you reply, "I am a consultant, "just missed an opportunity to sell to an interested party. Your elevator speech should tell a story about who you are and what it takes.
I'm on a mission to help owners of microenterprises in the use of Internet to grow their businesses, interact with customers and clients, and the level the playing field against much larger competition. The term "small business" is a misnomer - there is a huge difference in resources between a small business with the highest number of 500 employees and the employer to be alone. I have firsthand knowledge of the challenges facing these solopreneurs and help them use Web 2.0 technologies to reach large audiences with nothing more than a great product, a laptop, and lots of creativity.
Finally, create a stunning biography in line to be used primarily on LinkedIn and your blog.

Day # 3 - Social Networks
Social etiquette
How successful you can be in an event network marketing business if you live as a politician came 10 minutes late for a rally - in a mad rush to shake every hand and distribute brochures and free pens, spieling off its three main campaign promises is not interested in talking with and meeting people, talking only about yourself, your services, your consulting business. Believe it or not, there are now people treat social media as a campaign event. It's the biggest mistake you can make.
In contrast, treatment of online socializing and network connections are treated as real people in network events:
- Listen 80%, about 20%
- Always be friendly and respectful
- Offer and provide assistance, advice, information
- Business card online (web or blog address) to more information
If you connect with someone who likes and respects you and has a need for their services, who seek him.
You may already have a personal Facebook page. It is acceptable, even encouraged, to offer their professional contacts to look at her personal life a degree. If you use Facebook regularly to keep up with friends and family, post pictures and make political statements, you may want to consider Facebook activity if it puts you in the best possible way with their customers. Maintaining a Facebook page is not critical to your success as a consultant, so you may wish to continue to use Facebook as the site based on personal and professional social networking LinkedIn. Tip: Farmville, MafiaWars, Facebook and other applications are generally considered bad form in a professional environment.
LinkedIn is the most important site for a consultant to be active. How we connect with colleagues from the past, current business contacts, and other professionals before you LinkedIn? Once you have your resume and complete marketing plan, sign for staff LinkedIn account (free) and start connecting. The initial process of LinkedIn will guide you through connecting to colleagues who are already in your database data. You can not have too many connections on LinkedIn, to reach all those who have worked no matter how long ago. Then connect to all those who currently do business with, your real estate agent, insurance agent, attorney, Baker, and the teacher of their children.
Now comes the hard part: You should get recommendations in order to build social proof. Order 20 recommendations by LinkedIn today. In these moments. LinkedIn makes it very easy. Simply locate the selection of the recommendations in profile and select up to 200 of your contacts. You can use the standard text LinkedIn request or personalize it with your own words. LinkedIn sends an individual message for each of the contacts that you specify with your request for a recommendation. Now return to favor. Without being prompted, type the recommendations for people who have worked on. See some recommendations first and simply follow the format.
LinkedIn groups are a great way to begin to establish themselves as an expert in their field and to provide assistance to the connections around the world again. Find and join all the groups that are interesting. You can find groups based on industry, hobbies, geographic location, the alma mater (remember high school), and so on. A network effects to his consulting business, select groups with more than 1,000 members. LinkedIn limits the number of groups you can belong to 50, and some groups require approval by a group administrator so there may be a bit of a wait before they can join.
Once you join groups that are interesting to you, spend some time browsing for the group active discussions before diving and begin to answer the questions.
Finally, the state updates, it is important to begin publishing their status at least three times day. You can refer to a good article you read online (use title = "bit.ly"> bit.ly / to shorten URLs), tell everyone you are working, or talking about what he had for breakfast. The important thing is to offer insight into your day, show that it is to be productive and stay connected.
Unless you want to see in the media, it is not necessary that you become a twitterer. Twitter could help regulate your credibility and increase social contacts, however, is something you can do in five days and beyond.
Day # 4 - article marketing and blog
LinkedIn and article marketing is the one-two of its marketing strategy. You start writing industry specific articles to establish that as a thought-leader and an expert on the subject and publish them on the blog. You will also ruin the article marketing sites and is not online.
Article Marketing simply means the original publication of his article on the Internet through sites dedicated to the distribution of these items. The Article marketing effectively increases the overall exposure and establish yourself as an expert in your field.
Your blog exists primarily as a landing site to sustain their articles and allow your community to connect with you. Yahoo, Google, and Posterous blogs are very quick and easy to configure. I use and love WordPress.com, but admit that there was a learning curve in understanding the interface, the creation of widgets and so on. I recommend you create a blog very easy to start rolling and in a more advanced platform on the road.
Write and publish articles of mass consumption is a bit complicated, so I've come to this exercise willing to help. Find a kitchen timer and set it instead of 2 hours.
- Create a free account at EzineArticles.com.
- Create a free account on Digg.com
- Write an article specific to the sector in less than 90 minutes.
Unless you write regularly for your industry, you might have a problem start. I myself staring into the space of two days trying to think of a topic. Just pick something, anything, to get started. Its second article will be much better, and the third better than that. What 5 things you should know about your industry? O 5 things to consider when hiring a consultant? - Post your article on target = "_blank"> Advice and Digg .
Thank goodness. You made it. Ok, so I ran to you and the first probably will not be collected, but the process of publication and should not be scary. He was soon scoring Article Ideas gum wrappers while stuck in traffic.
There are many article distribution sites marketing you can use, a quick search on Google will produce many hits. Try and buzzle.com businessknowhow.com, then find more information about your account.
Each time I write a new article, take a moment to find discussion forums for good conversations. Quote the article as an answer to a question and make sure to provide a link to your blog.
Day # 5 and ongoing use of its resources
Just as it will provide some of their knowledge key in order to establish credibility, so are others. There are many free and valuable information through the Internet. Check out my blog for a sample sites for small business owners and small businesses.
