Adding 'before' and 'next' Navigation in WordPress?

Hello. I have a WordPress blog Leopress running with the theme, however there is no navigation, such as 'before' and 'next'. How I can add this? I tried to insert the following code in the single.php file without any results (I found the code in the default theme single.php file):
