How to add Google AdSense to WordPress Sidebar?

In WordPress.org, who says you can not add javascript directly in the messages and such, but can be added to the templates. I know how to add Adsense to the posts using templates, but I saw a video someone put it directly into a widget text. In WordPress.com, you can not do that, but is that all there is that wp.org, you must have an adsense plugin, or you have to change the code in a template in a place? If the latter, can anyone give me a link to somewhere that shows how?

With respect to sidebar, I remember that you can put AdSense on your WordPress blog, just place the text control code. Actually you can implement AdSense on the job. You can see an example here - http://www.web2whizzing.com/implicating-adsense-in-the-posts/ and more information on how to do that.
