CSS customization WordPress.Com Help?

I'm editing the CSS wordpress.COM fr my blog. I changed the color of the envelope of the page so it is an edge blue all over, but now the widget lateral extremes, everything becomes dark blue (the color of the envelope of the page.) I added a plenty of breaks in the widget to get the lighter color for the sidebar extend downward, but now when I have something new that was a mistake and my image footer dropped, and you can see the dark blue up where the last entry. What I can do that when I publish something new blog and all the changes in height, way to get the footer image with the color of the sidebar solid blue light to move up and align with the last message. So, basically, I want the border of the sidebar and the footer image of being together and aligned with everything else as they change posts. I realize this is a bit confusing ....... My blog is ringling9.wordpress.com (I have the css upgrade, however, I figure my first design).
