WordPress Plugin Shopping YAK review

Among the other e-commerce eShop plugins that I have reviewed this and WP e-Commerce, Shopping YAK has come to my attention and the author Jason R Briggs describes the plugin as follows:

YAK is an open source plugin for WordPress shopping cart. Associated products with weblog entries, so the message ID also becomes the product code. It supports both pages and posts as products, handles different types of products across categories and provides customization options to purchase (check or deposit, basic credit card format, the level of integration of PayPal, PayPal Payments Pro and Authorize.net).

Therefore I was interested in testing to see how it compares with other plugins I've tried. So let to go directly to the pros and cons of this plugin.

THE PROS

Includes sales reports and graphs

YAK shopping cart comes with a sale Report option in the Tools menu. Compared with other plugins is definitely a positive result with more information available to see the progress of sales. Reports this plugin are:

• Best sellers for the year
• Best sales for the month
• A simple graphic to see sales for the month

A good range of payment options available

Shopping YAK has many payment options available and integrated into the plug. Unlike other e-commerce plugins are limited or require additional ticket payment YAK covers most of them. This plugin offers:

• Manual Credit Card Processing
• Credit accounts receivable
• Authorize.net
• Paypal and Paypal Pro
• Google Checkout

While you have an account with the merchants of the previous payment, is not too difficult to link your shopping cart for them. However, I've that there is still no payment options including cash, check / money order and COD. YAK also offers a secure SSL connection for all previous payments.

THE CONS

Documentation and help is hard to find
I found the plugin easy to install, but we found it very difficult to navigate through the administration panel of yak. It is partly due to lack of documentation on the use of this plugin. Without documentation most people struggle YAK use and find to be easy to use. Besides, I was very surprised to find I had to pay for a manual for the documentation, giving the impression has plugin designed only to make money, not use, but documentation. I wish to pay for a plugin to the plugin documentation to have to waste time thinking about how to use it yourself.

The lack of functionality of the products

After the creation of a product in a place and its connection YAK I found to be very basic and lacks much functionality. No fields to insert images of the products. It was not easy to find the product fields obvious attributes as weight and quantity. I felt lost when it comes to adding products.

It is easy to use and lack of design on the front

As I have already mentioned, without documentation a user needs to spend time working on how this plugin. What makes it worse is that each section in the administration YAK is not self-explanatory. At first after installing the plugin I went to find a menu called YAK, but after realizing that there was nothing I thought it had been added to the Tools menu. Added three new links: orders, products and sales reports. I think the developers thought YAK I could find a way to use this, but they were wrong. I was more frustrated!
Mention that there is a YAK Settings, you to change the Basic options, products, download, special payment, Shipping, promotions. It did relieve some of my frustration when I heard this, but I still could not see much on the front end. As you can see a plugin very poorly designed and lack of ease of use in both the front and the administration.

Conclusion

I decided that this plugin go as I had spent over 3 hours just to understand how the plugin could fit into a WordPress blog. In general there is a lack of ease of use and no user manual is very difficult to work for yourself. For users who want something simple and a shopping cart that works immediately, YAK is not your solution. I would use WP e-Commerce or eShop at any time.

My rating of this plugin is 1 to 5 stars.
