For this to work, the blog of John should allow pingback. In general, most of the bloggers set the "Do Follow" to enable trackbacks and pingbacks. To ensure that the blog allows trackbacks and pingbacks, just check out the section blog comments and see if any pingback and trackback links.

If you are using Firefox, you can install the SEO for Firefox plug-in. This plug-in will let you know what ties are "no follow". If the link does not indicate that it is a "no follow", it is a "Do Follow". Unfortunately, in this time, Internet Explorer does not have this feature.

This trackback process was thought to be a level of legitimacy for the trackback comments because they originated from another weblog. However, John can edit the contents of the trackback on his blog only, which means the idea of "legitimacy" is not resolved. In addition, there is a real verification process incoming trackbacks and could be false.

Other important factors:

You want to make sure you are getting quality links to your blog. Therefore, always check the contents of the website before allowing the links.
Make sure you are writing quality content posts on your blog bloggers for others to want to link to your messages.
Be sure to find quality content posts for the link.
WordPress automatically sets the "no follow" trackback / pingback link.
By default, WordPress pings every time you update / edit your post. If you want to avoid the frenzy of ping and to avoid being banned for ping spamming, install a plug-in, as MaxBlogPress Ping Optimizer. Once installed, it will ping only when adding a new post.
Trackbacks and pingbacks are an excellent way to build links and traffic to your blog. It also lets you build relationships with other bloggers.
