WordPress Portfolio Theme

Using WordPress blog and the portfolio with the plug from the simple portfolio?

Using the new self hosted wordpress site. I am using the modernist theme 2.5 by Rodrigo Galindez, who installed the plugin portfolio so you can easily use my WordPress site as a portfolio but once activated the plug from the simple portfolio that messages can only be added to the portfolio page instead of having a blog with posts and a portfolio of messages as well. Is this the only option if you use the plug from the simple portfolio? The site may only be posted on the website of the portfolio?
