The integration of existing WordPress GoDaddy hosting: what's next?

Here's the deal: I have a purchased domain and hosting GoDaddy few months ago. My code is not as good, however, and someone told me I could install WordPress as an application and basically create my website that way. I installed the application (it took a couple of hours to "create database", but it ended), but nothing tells me what to do next! The closest thing to a next step I saw was to pick up a pre-done and pay $ 45 for it. I can design my own reality, or at least would like a book. I have paid for accommodation, so what happens now? Also, I was told that I could easily add plug-ins, as a gallery of the collection. I do not know how to do that. If you care, that is for a website graphic design - to show my portfolio and the like, not a blog. All help is greatly appreciated!
