WordPress Trackback Tutorial

When used correctly, trackbacks and pingbacks are an excellent way to build links and traffic to your blog, so to establish relationships with other bloggers.

What is Trackback?

In simple terms, trackback is a way to notify a website when you publish an entry that refers to it.

When you send a trackback, link with a short excerpt from her entry will appear in the reference site.

Finding the trackback link

When you want to trackback, you have to use a special link provided in the blog you want to reference.

Most trackback links appear just after the blog entry and content before the comments.

Sometimes the link will appear as a text link:

If the URL of the link has been referred, will have to click on it and select "Copy link location ..." (Or your browser's equivalent) Otherwise, you can select and copy the link.

If you plan to refer to more than one blog, each URL link will to be copied individually.

(Please Note: Not all blogs show their URL link to view some blogs, even shut down the trackback. If in doubt, contact the blog author.)

Trackback

Before you publish your blog, you will need to tell WordPress to send notices trackback.

Paste the trackback URL in the box next to "Send Trackbacks to".

In WordPress 1.5, the picture appears in the Advanced section below the table of contents entry. Note: you must be in edit mode Advanced to see advanced options box.

In WordPress 2.0, which is just below the cargo box. If the Trackback box itself does not is revealed, click the "+".

Once you have added all the trackback URL you want, when you hit the publication button, the blog (s) will be notified.

WordPress' built according to Ping

WordPress has a trackback to a new level by allowing pingbacks.

Pingbacks allows you to notify blog entry just by posting its permalink directly to the content of your blog post. No trackback link requires special protection.

To enable ping URLs in the blog entry, make sure there is a checkmark next to "The attempt to notify any Weblogs linked to from the article (slows down publication.) "in" Options-> Discussion " section of the WordPress admin panel.

Check if a website supports Pingbacks

Usually, one can assume that most WordPress for blogs pingback support the feature, however, can be disabled or moderate based on the blog owner.

If you want to be certain pingbacks are compatible, just look at the HTML code a line like:

<Link rel = "pingback" href ="..." />

If the site has pings enabled, a link to a brief sample of the text around it will appear on your blog.

Check if your Trackback was successful or Pingback

Trackbacks and pingbacks successfully usually appear within moments of the publication of his blog post, but remember trackbacks and pingbacks that can be mild or disabled by the blog owners.

You can also verify that the trackback and pingback were successfully sent, Click Edit next to the blog publishing and scrolling down below the custom fields. WordPress will show all URLs that were notified about your blog post.

Sometimes a blog may be having technical problems with the system or trackback pingback. If you believe that is the case, you may kindly send the blog owner a message outlining the potential problem, be sure to include all necessary information and relevant for them to solve problems.

Use Trackback and Pingback Wisely

When you send a trackback, be aware send a pingback. If the site you're linking pingbacks enabled, be sure not to trackback. You may end up inadvertently publishing two links to your site and this may bother some webmasters, or can even be interpreted as spam attempt.

Avoid trackback unless that reference or link to the page is sending a trackback, otherwise, may be considered spam.

Trackback or pingback If not on the website does not continually try to force the use pingback or trackback. Instead, go to the actual blog and leave a note with a link to your blog entry manually. If the blog owner thinks it's quite relevant, they will approve it.

Allow Trackbacks / Pingbacks in your blog

WordPress allows you to set the status of your ping default in the Options menu. If you knows that most of their messages have been allowed trackback / pingback, putting him to accept his blog could make life a little easier.

From your admin panel, click Options-> Discussion and place a checkmark next to "Allow link notifications from other Weblogs (pingbacks and trackbacks.) "And do not forget to click Update Options when finished.
