WordPress Pictures In Sidebar

Customizing the WordPress Sidebar: any WordPress guru out there?

Hello, I'm not very computer literate, I went throughout the WordPress documentation online, but found nothing. Assuming you have edited an image and FTP the images folder of my current theme, What is the exact line of code that I have to add the "sidebar.php" file in the theme editor for the image that appears in the sidebar? Not I use the plugins, and I hope that this would be a decent alternative. Where exactly I have to paste the line of code in "sidebar.php" file? Thank you very much!
