Production
The animation in Happy Feet invested heavily in motion capture technology, with dance scenes depicted by human dancers. The tap Mumble, in particular, was provided by Savion Glover, who also co-choreographer of the dance sequences. The dancers went through "Penguin School" for learn to move like a penguin, and also wore head apparatus to mimic the beak of a penguin.
Happy Feet is a need for a large group of computers, and Animal Logic worked with IBM to build a farm with enough processing power. The farm uses IBM BladeCenter HS20 BladeCenter blade servers and framework, separate units that are extremely heavy equipment, each with two Intel Xeon processors. Delivery took 17 million hours of CPU over a period of nine months. Happy Feet was inspired in part by earlier documentaries such as BBC's lives in the freezer.
The film took four years to make. Ben Gunsberger, visual effects supervisor Lighting Department Supervisor, says this was partly because they needed to build new infrastructure and tools.
An earlier cut of the film appears to have included a subplot general in relation to aliens within the meaning of alien, whose presence was gradually more and more known all over, and they were planning to siphon the resources of the planet little by little, putting humans in the same light as the penguins. In the end, through the plight the protagonist, his hand was, and instead, the first contact is made. This was sharply over the last year of production, and has not yet seen the light of day in finished form, despite the conceptual art of these sequences were presented at the Siggraph 2007 show, and are available online, too.

Top ten lists
The film appeared on many critics' top ten lists of the best films of 2006, including the annual AFI list, which appears in the list. AFI Jury, said:
"Happy Feet is a one-of-a kind of motion picture experience. George Miller continues to paint outside the lines of traditional filmmaking, and his genius expands in the animation art form to illuminate a world in which penguins dance and embrace the differences to survive and prosper. But that's just the tip of the iceberg, as the environment, religion and the gulf between generations enrich this sweet and subtle story -. it's fun and funny, bright, beautiful, innovative and global in its message "
