What is a good content management system to set up an article directory?

I'm looking for an open source content management system to build an article directory like Ezines or GoArticles. I'm very familiar with WordPress, but it doesn't seem like that would be a good platform. It would have to be a system where users could register, submit articles and manage their accounts. Maybe some sort of plugin for Joomla?

Joomla CMS is one of the best CMS that is successful today. You can surly use Joomla to set up an article directory and where users can register and manage their accounts.
