How to create a blog?

Hi all, We are interested in starting our own blog. We are going to use GoDaddy for our domain but that's what we're sure you know how to do. Once we have our own domain, what are the next steps? I searched and researched online and some people have posted how-to guides, however, I prefer someone who can tell me how they did on past experience. I'm sure there's some kind of software would have to come to the basics of blogging, (things that you can use the text entries, photos, HQ, and a comments section). We are not interested at all in using something like WordPress. I've used in the past and, frankly, do not worry about it. We are also thinking of getting a book to help us do this too, some of them can be recommended? Please, if you can give us an idea about doing the blog (from the very first go, once we have our domain) would be a great help! Thanks! Court & Al
