wordpress database structure
WordPress database migration?

I have an instance of WordPress installed and running on a remote server. I noticed it started to be much more work to update the files each time you change something small, so using BitNami, I installed a local instance. I think I made a copy of my base data from the remote host and I have a file that ends in.SQL. Is this all I need? Where do I put this in the local file structure work? or there a better way to migrate an instance of WordPress on the web from my local computer?

Hello Algor, depending on how the SQL file was created. As you probably know, is just a WordPress site that what is contained in the database. Usually anything in wp-content is subject to change. This includes changes on issues that are using pictures of your site is using, and plugins. If your goal is just to have a backup of the posts and pages your site, then a simple export should work. You may find that in Tools> Export. Alternatively, you can back up the database wordpress data with phpMyAdmin. This is a WordPress Codex page that explains how this is done: http://codex.wordpress.org/Backing_Up_Your_Database WP-DB-Backup is a popular plug-in that allows you to backup the WordPress database. You can find here: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wp-db-backup/ doing good import a database using a SQL file that was run through a theme. Since the source file was created from a local installation of WordPress the URL in the file is http://localhost. This of course would not work after import was applied at the remote site. There is a way to change this after the file is imported, but would have to do in phpMyAdmin. I suppose you could do a Find / Replace in the SQL file before import. I use the same workflow you are describing. I can create my initial site locally (with screens). Once you decide what theme I use and have my sets, I post on the live site. All content is added to the living room and never touch the local site unless you want to prove something. Trying to keep a local site and remote synchronization is pretty useless (in my opinion). Maintaining a site backup is essential. Hope this helps.
