WordPress Content Management System

Why use a blogging platform like WordPress or MT in the external blog?
My company publishes content online article. Our department technology considered a blog more than any other item in our content management system. I think a blog is much more - and we use WordPress or MT or another blogging platform to reap the benefits outside of the blogosphere. But I can not explain exactly why. Need supporting information to support my decision to use WordPress, MT etc.
MT and WordPress are only specialized content management systems. If you already have a CMS, then mix it in WordPress or MT a complication. It is better to add support for RSS / Atom / Comments Home Calendar / base / etc with the existing system instead of confusing users with multiple User interfaces of the contents subtlety different.
