How I can change the background beyond a max-width without having to change all my pages?

Let me explain more ... Now I have a set max-width for my body. css. That works fine, so I do not want to change it. The problem is that every page is so hard now, and for higher resolution which is a big blank space to the right of the max-width. I realize that can change the background color of the body, add a div class divs and put the entire contents of all pages. The problem is that it would take a long time, and I have to have installed gallery2 and wordpress as it seems a bit difficult to undo. I should also mention that all my pages have an extension of php, and I'm using PHP includes to add my header / menu for all pages. That makes the main file. Css to affect everything, even if is linked to that particular page. Before starting to change all the pages, I wonder if there is an easier way to change the background of the area to right max-width, where the content ends. Any ideas would be appreciated. Are you using a pixel value for example: max-width: 500px Have you tried a percentage instead? For example, 100%.
