What recent changes in Facebook mean for you - Open Graph button "like", and More
In his lecture F8 recent Facebook and its CEO Mark Zuckerberg made a lot of announcements about changes they have made, and I've been getting some questions about them.
Indeed, something that was announced was a bit complex for the casual user, every day business owner --- so Facebook is not alone if you found out and was a bit " Huh? "
Instead of writing an extensive analysis of all the pros and cons of what has changed recently, I thought there was a breakdown of seeds more important than a small business owner should consider.
1) You are no longer "Fan" a page
What was known as "Fan Pages" is now known as the " Official "pages to distinguish Pages of the community - I will speak below. It will take some getting used to, as everyone had come to throw the whole "fan" when talking about terminology commercial presence "on Facebook. Now," as "a page in place.
Not a fan of this new terminology? Many people are not. I've taken to refer to fans as "supporters" now --- which, unfortunately, has a little less pizazz in my mind.
I was one of those who believed "Fan" setting because of the idea that they were building a fan base and community around your business.
But unfortunately, as is the evolution of social media.
If you were using flash Facebook Fan Box in place, the fan automatically switches to the same button that when released change. However, if you are using a personal identification card or button that is likely to change or find a new one with the new terminology.
Need some ideas on how the word of inviting people to support your site? If you do not like to say "Like us on Facebook," perhaps say: "Join us on Facebook," "Visit us on Facebook" or "Support our page."
2) The Facebook "Open Graph" button and "Like"
Previously, Facebook Connect was the software tool that allows web sites, devices phones and more to integrate with Facebook and send information between them. Facebook Connect is already being removed, since the last Conference of F8, Facebook announced the launch of something called "Open Graph". In his speech, Mark Zuckerberg, said it would allow people to "take immediate social experiences and personal wherever they go."
This new platform will allow the website to share information with each other easily. For example, if you connect to a site like Yelp through your Facebook profile Yelp will have access to the information you have available to the public about their favorite bands, food, and be able to take this into consideration when given information about the concert halls or restaurants. This is probably the most controversial (creepy?) Aspects of the new changes.
Also announced at the conference was the introduction of the universal "as" the button can be added to any website. For example, you may like (Or "recommend") an article on CNN.com to share with your friends on Facebook. Like the button then it will show which of your Facebook friends and also have liked the article. When you like something, this activity will show on your Facebook Wall and the News Feed.
If you are a WordPress user, You can now install a plugin to add the button as well as his own blog, and you can get on the WordPress site.
3) connected pages and profiles
You have also noticed that Facebook has made the link between their profile pages and more connected. Profile information such as your city people, interest, etc. now be linked to the pages. You see the Information tab has changed and that the sections that now links to pages that reflect their interests.
This is probably my least favorite change that Facebook has done (I'm not loving the way automatically rearranged all my interests, Education information, etc), but it is important to note that users have the ability to control your privacy for these connections. You can edit the information visiting "Edit Profile" in the image and adjust your privacy in the Privacy Settings menu.
4) The introduction of the Pages community
Facebook has also recently introduced the concept of "Community Pages", which also can be created from the same page official pages, except the right side. Community Pages are "unofficial" the pages that are created by Facebook users in support of certain causes and issues. In these pages, Facebook says "Generate support for your favorite cause or issue by creating a community page. If it becomes popular to be adopted and maintained by the Facebook community. "
As with social media in general, it seems the only constant is change --- Facebook, like it or not.
