WordPress Top 10 Terms to Know

My new WordPress clients are often confused about some of the terms of WordPress. This makes it difficult to communicate effectively with them about what they want from their WordPress sites and blogs. Therefore, I decided to list the top 10 all terms related to WordPress WordPress uses should know.

Term 1: Topics

A theme is a collection of files that create the look of your website or blog WordPress. Topics are a bit like 'skins' which you can download, install and start using it in place. Topics may also include some custom features to give greater control over the presentation and functionality of your site. In general, a single theme can be used together.

Term 2: Templates

In WordPress, Templates are one of several specific files that control how a special page on its website on the screen. For example, the subject may have multiple designs page, perhaps one with a sidebar and one without. There are templates that control the top of every page, such as navigation, called "head" the bottom of every page, called "footer" and "sidebars" (see below). The templates can also be created for a page or message, category, and more.

Term 3: Plugins

Plugins are a collection of files that can be downloaded and installed to add a certain functionality to your site. For example, there are plugins for e-commerce, search engine optimization, creating specific features as a calendar, or to change the way the control and operation of your website. There are 1,000 's of plugins, most of which are free.

Term 4: Sidebar

The Sidebar is a section of its website usually displays along the left or right side of the pages, but can also appear elsewhere, as the footer. You can have multiple sidebars in place based on the templates they have.

Term 5: Widgets

Widgets are the individual blocks of content that will in a sidebar. You can add, delete or rearrange the widgets on your sidebar by dragging and dropping in the center of WordPress admin. Widgets many can also be edited to give you additional control over how the widgets appear on your site. Some common widgets are Examples of simple text, recent posts, advertising like AdSense, etc.

Term 6: Pages and Posts

Pages vs. The messages are a bit confusing and could have its own article. In general, however, want to use the pages for individual content pages that are kept in the same place place. In WordPress, you can easily create permanent links, which are a particular structure to your site. Instead of using URL as meaning yourdomain.com /? p = 8 , which could have yourdomain.com / My pages /. You can control the permalinks for each page and post on WordPress.

Term 9: Tags

The labels are similar the categories, just that they are less structured. For example, you can have a message about your favorite football team, maybe you are putting in "Sports" category. You can also use some labels as' Football ',' Cincinnati Bengals and Carson Palmer. Using labels can have a list of labels in the sidebar where people can click on different tags to open all the pages and messages are labeled in particular. Term 10: Custom Fields

WordPress includes a way to create their own values that are assigned to a particular page or post. Its theme, or the developer WordPress can then use the fields and values to create custom functionality on your site. For example, you might want to have a classification system what is written.
