WordPress Security - 3 tips to help protect your blog

The security of your WordPress blog is the most important thing to do. Every day WordPress sites are being hacked and injected with malicious code that could affect not only your website but also to other visitors. In addition, if the problem is not resolved, could result in his blog on the black list of search engines and labeled as a dangerous place. After all the hard work you put on its website, it would be utterly devastating to discover that your site has been compromised and / or destroyed. With that being said, I have compiled some tips to help you start protecting your WordPress blog. This is NOT a complete guide to securing your WordPress site, but these tips will help you to drive in the right direction.

Use passwords to login

It is highly recommended to use passwords to make it harder for other can guess your username. Strong passwords should be seven to fourteen characters long, containing both uppercase and lowercase letters followed by numbers and symbols. Make sure you do not like any password you used in the past.

Hide content within your directory

One of the easiest tricks is to insert a blank index.html file in your "plugins" directory. This helps prevent unwanted visitors to see plugins running on your WordPress site. To do this, simply open Notepad and save the blank file as "index.html" (without quotes). Now go to your server and place the index.html file in wp-content/plugins /. Remember to always securely connect to the server using a secure file-type Protocol (SFTP or FTPES) in which data is encrypted before being sent through the network.

Scanning for vulnerabilities WordPress

Recommend install the plugin WP strongly Security Scan by Michael Torbert. WP Security plugin that will scan your WordPress Installation for security vulnerabilities and suggest necessary changes, including:

  • Passwords
  • File Permissions
  • Database security
  • Version hide
  • WordPress admin protection
  • META tag generator eliminates WP core code
