Web Design: The best way to help the client to edit their websites without much knowledge of ICT?

Hi, I'm thinking of trying my hand in designing web pages for me well with HTML / CSS, etc, but I wondered how web designers get their customers to edit their own pages. I tried to install WordPress (to use user interface) on a local server (Xampp) but I find the blog a little service oriented. Anyone know of simple / no HTML visual editors / FTP that are too risky for non-technical mind. Thank you.
