How to block spam on WordPress

Spam is the scourge of the internet. Nobody wants to comment spam filling your WordPress website. It speaks ill you, as owner of the site, and this is especially true if your WordPress site represents your business!

Fortunately, there are some great tools available to eliminate spam in your WordPress site a piece of cake.

Akismet

The easiest way to deal with more 99% of spam is to use the single most downloaded WordPress plugin, Akismet. (It comes standard with WordPress core software.)

Once activated Akismet You need to enter your WordPress API key. There is a way to get a couple.

If you have a WordPress.com account, you already have one. (If you do not you can register for free.) Simply go to your WordPress.com "Setting Personal Profile" and you will see your API key at the top of the page.

Copy of that string of letters and numbers and paste them into the Plugins -> Akismet Configuration panel in your own site. Then click "Options upgrade "and that is to be set.

Another line of defense spam in your WordPress site is bad behavior.

Bad behavior is designed to use over spam filters like Akismet across or Defensio and works differently. Instead of filtering spam in the comments once they get into your website targets the bad behavior of the methods by which delivery spam.

If you still feel overwhelmed by dealing with spam with one of the other plugins, you can add bad behavior and drastically reduce the number of spam even in the comments to see on your site. Bad behavior will block most spammers from even being able to access your site.
