Why serve on blogspot blogs?

I've seen a lot of blogs on blogspot. What is the purpose? Is possible to make money through blogs. If so how?

No money, I guess the famous people, to use the site or something, but not everyone who writes something. People go because they like writing blogs or want attention or people to see their views. I personally write and do not put across the Internet, because I write blog-like things and do not want people reading them and judging them.
