I am often asked what SEO is, what is not, and that is something that my clients can do to help your SEO. Keep descriptions, title and keywords with the specifications under specified by the major search engines:
Title: maximum 70 characters
Description: no more than 150 characters
Keywords: 10 words / phrases per page is a good deal
Novelty
Search engines are becoming increasingly aware of the site's age and the time the domain is registered. To help this, register your domain as long as possible (to allow the search engines know that you plan to stay there) and get an aggressive SEO in place.
On-Page SEO, Off-Page SEO
On-Page SEO refers to the actual content (keywords, meta-information, to enhance the search) in / on the website. About 25% of visits are based on this content.
Off-Page SEO refers to direct traffic to the site through the link (through the media social, reeds RSS, directories, etc.). Approximately 75% of visits are based (input) links.
Page Rank
Google ranks sites web based on what "valuable" is a web site. Google is based on the nature of the Web and its vast structure linking as an indicator of an individual page value.
Having a higher Page Rank means higher probability of being in the top of searches. The links are the basis of page rank - sites that are less known is because they are so important and have very few people who joins them. Those sites with thousands of incoming links, Google looks like a worthwhile site.
Amount inbound links
Do not fall into the networks of connection or link Webrings, and never pay anyone that promises to bring links.
Repeat visits (encourage)
Use at least one form of conversion for lead (keep as short and sweet)
Increased visits to your site by regular mail mail / newsletter marketing campaigns
Add a "bookmark this page" to your site so customers can easily return
Add an "email this page to a friend" link to your site
Your website address should be printed on all elements of marketing and business, and your email signature
Start a blog - it helps in many ways: it keeps open communication between you and your visitors if they allow comments, search engines index (and rank) of your site higher when you keep the contents of the new load, shows potential customers that you care about their interests and provides greater opportunities for search engines (and customers) to find.
