In this post we are going to cover ways to correctly format your blog content to maximize readership and SEO as part of your WordPress Marketing Strategies. These are the tactics we are using on our Survival Skills and Gear project site. This is the project blog we are working on with the goal of building an authority website, in a competitive niche, that we can monetize and make some money from.
Here’s a short checklist of things you must do for formatting your blog posts correctly. Formatting is key WordPress Strategy to keeping visitors on your site and encouraging them to read more.
1. Catchy Title
2. 1-2 Sentence Introduction – Always include a quick intro because most people will only read the first few lines. If they like it they will continue.
3. Headings – Divide your content into headings using H2 or H3 tags. This will make your post a lot easier to read. Headings are important for search engine optimization.
3. Image – Every post should include an image. When you insert an image you should include an alt tag, image description and the post URL. These are also important because the search engines. It’s your option as to whether or not to use the post image as thumbnail. You can, of course, use videos
4. Linking out – You should link out to other people if it is relevant to your content. This adds value for your readers because it will add value to them. We cover linking and anchor text in a future video.
5. Categories – Pick the best category – One of them. At the max, use two.
6. Tags – You can enter a keyword phrase here. The presenter of this video says to use 3 to 6 tags. I only use one because multiple tags can create a spamming look.
In regard to the multimedia box the presenter is talking about, that requires a special plugin which I do not have.
Keywords should be used throughout, as long as it makes sense relative to your content.
