In this post we are going to cover the installation and use of the Link Cloaking WordPress plugin and why we need it in building our http://survivalskillsandgear.com authority site. This is a project blog we are working on with the goal of having authority website (in this case a blog) that we can monetize and make some money from.

The link cloaking plugin allows you to cloak (disguise) your affiliate links so that the search engines won’t look at your site and think it is a spam site because of adverisements you have on it. 

It can cloak outgoing links in your posts and/or pages.

Features

• Choose what to cloak – all links, only the links you specify or no links at all.
• Choose where to cloak – posts, pages or both.
• Configure the URL – you can set the “prefix” part of the URL (see examples below).
• Exception list – links pointing to domains in this list will not be cloaked. For example, this is useful if you have chosen to cloak all links but don’t want to cloak the links to your own domains.
• Compatible with all browsers – the link cloaker plugin doesn’t use JavaScript so it will work even for visitors that have disabled JS.
• “Smart” cloaking – relative, ambiguous or malformed URLs will not be cloaked. Better safe than sorry.

Make sure to go to your Permalinks tab, after you install Link Cloaking, and click on Update Permalinks.  You don’t need to activate this plugin until you start putting affiliate ads on your site.

You will not be able to download this plug off of WordPress.org because they have removed all plugins that have the word cloaking in their descriptions.
