WordPress Marketing Strategies

The Survival Skills Blog Project

In this post we are going to cover ways to correctly format your blog content to maximize readership and SEO.  These are the tactics we are using on our Survival Skills and Gear project site. This is the project blog we are working on with the goal of building an authority website, in a competitive niche, that we can monetize and make some money from.

Blog Posting Checklist

Whenever you write a post, use this checklist. Post this list next to you and do this for every post.  Note: each article should be about one keyword only.

  1. The keyword or keyword phrase should be in the title of the article.  Title is 60 characters or less.
  2. The keyword or keyword phrase should be in the All in One SEO Title Tag field. Title is 60 characters or less.
  3. The keyword or keyword phrase should be in the All in One SEO Description Tag. 160 characters or less.
  4. Enter up to five keywords in the All in One SEO keywords field (Reportedly, Google doesn’t pay much attention to this, but Yahoo, Bing and other search engines still do.)
  5. Make sure to use the keyword or keyword phrase in each Article.  It is okay to mix the keyword phrase up a bit.  Example: selling structured settlements or sell a structured settlement
  6. Use only ONE category
  7. Enter only ONE tag
  8. Place two or three internal links.  Example: internet marketing strategies is linked to http://markvschwartz.com and this time internet marketing strategies is linked to the page http://markvschwartz.com/internet-marketing-strategies/.  You can also internally link to categories, http://markvschwartz.com/category/internet-marketing-strategies/, or other related posts.
  9. Place one or two Outbound Links to an authority site (non affiliate) below the fold.  For example, for my survival skill authority site project I may link to an article on survival skills at Wikepedia or the Discovery Channel.
  10. Post a related YouTube video to every post (optional)
  11. Insert a picture into every post (optional).  Make sure that you enter some type of keyword into the “post image alt” tag of the image.  Always use at least one image and/or a video.

One way to keep track of what you need to do is to install the following plugin and then customize it for your own use.

internet marketing strategies picture If you install this Blogging Checklist plugin, you can create a list that you can see each time you write a post. This is an awesome little plugin that has hardly ever been downloaded. Here is a sample list you can copy and paste into the plugin options (feel free to modify this list any way you want):

[ ] Keyword phrase in name of post

[ ] Keyword phrase in ‘Title’ tag

[ ] Keyword phrase in ‘Description’ tag

[ ] Internal link to the Home page

[ ] Internal link to another Page on your site

[ ] Internal link to another Page or post on your site

[ ] Outbound links in the article (non-affiliate links, below the fold)

[ ] Cloak any affiliate links

[ ] Add rel=nofollow to all affiliate links

[ ] Add YouTube.com video (optional, but VERY helpful)

[ ] Add picture (optional, but VERY helpful)

I think this will show up under your post by default. You can move it to the sidebar, then move it up to the top, if you want. When I did this, it was difficult to move it to the sidebar, but I kept trying and it eventually went over. If this happens to you, just keep trying.

Once you have this strategy memorized you won’t need the plugin, but I still like to have the checklist laying around.

Here is the post on the All in One SEO plugin if you need to review it.

The following video is about a checklist that someone uses whenever they post an article for a client of theirs.  It has a lot of similarities to my list, but does have some differences.
