14 The Right Way to use Categories on Your WordPress Blog

Most people, when posting content to their blogs don’t use categories correctly. I have been extremely guilty of this up until just a few weeks ago.  I bet there have been times when I posted something and put it under 10 categories (not knowing any better).

You are guilty if you post something on your blog and you put it under multiple categories. I never knew this, but this creates duplicate content (on your own domain) according to the search engines.  Google, in their webmaster guidelines, says “Don’t create multiple pages, subdomains or domains with substantially duplicate content”.  If you are posting to multiple categories, you are posting to multiple categories.

Never choose more than one category for each of your pages and posts because doing so will create the duplicate content Google does not like to see.
