Reading, Discussion and Media Settings for your WordPress Blog

My Internet Marketing Journey to Success – 12

Some of this may be fairly basic to many of you, but I wanted to make sure that nobody gets left behind.  I still remember the days when I didn’t have a clue on any of this.

Reading Settings

The Reading section of the Settings tab on your WordPress Dashboard is where you make the changes that will determine how your pages and posts are viewed by visitors.

In the Reading section we are going to leave the Front Page Display set at Latest Posts.

I will be setting the number of blog pages to show on http://survivalskillsandgear.com/ to 10 and I will set the number of feeds to 5.  The feeds should be summary instead of full text.

Discussion Settings

The Discussion section is the part of WordPress Dashboard where you set up how your site visitors can leave comments, enables inbound and outbound links, and much more.

The only thing I am changing in this section is …

UNCHECK THIS – An administrator must always approve the comment
CHECK THIS – Comment author must have a previously approved comment

I want all my comments to require moderation.  Requiring a previous comment is too restrictive.

With my blog set up to accept comments, I will be getting some spam.  So, in a later step i will be adding a “captcha” box to eliminate a lot of the computer generated spam comments.

Media Settings

The default setting here will work just fine for your site, so there is no need to make any changes.
