My Internet Marketing Journey to Success 05

Choosing a niche market

We discussed earlier about my search for a niche market and how this is critical to almost all “internet marketing strategies“. I also mentioned I was leaning towards the topic of survivalism.  I got my idea for this niche because I was watching the History Channel one evening – I love that channel!

When I was looking for my niche I considered the following. (Note: I am looking for one outside of internet marketing.)

  • How long are people actively interested this niche?
This is important because the goal is to find a niche about which people are passionate for a long, long time.  Think about it, it makes no sense to go through the effort of setting up a website, a mailing list or a newsletter in a niche that will be abandoned shortly after. People have been interested in this topic for centuries – just look at all the doomsday TV specials on Nostradomus and how people are preparing to survive his prophecies.
  • How broad and deep does the niche market run?
That is, it’s important to find out whether or not it has sub-niches which are very good for your business.  The example of sub-niches below is for Internet Marketing.  I see a lot of potential sub-niches for survivalism.

Example Niche Market: Internet Marketing
Sub Niche Markets:
o    Article Marketing
o    AdWords
o    Affiliate Marketing
o    CPA
o    Social Media
o    Video Marketing
o    Info Marketing
o    SEO Marketing
o    Etc., Etc., Etc.

  • Are others making money in the niche, if so how?
Forget grand ideas and magnificent projects.  Find successful marketers who are where you want to be and mimic their movements.  As they say, there is no need to reinvent the wheel. I have found a lot of sites on the topic of survivalism and see many potential products to sell.
  • Are there digital products currently available and in demand in this niche?  If yes, how many products are there and how well are they selling?
I would rather enter into a competitive market that I know has high demand and I know has potential products for me to sell.

Okay, I have a niche topic. The hardest part is out of the way.  Now I need to pick a domain name.  To do this I will be doing some keyword research and checking to see what domain names are available.
