Using effective WordPress

I think one of the main problems is that WordPress has made it very easy to run your own site. So easy, in fact, that we sometimes forget that we are actually running our own sites. Not that I complain about how easy it is, but can present some problems.

Sincerely, how often to backup database? Really? Do not lie.

How many of the major developers' blogs is that you subscribe?

If you are running your own site, then you are responsible. That's just the simple truth of the matter.

Here are some tips for running your own site

First, backup database of your blog:

• Backup WordPress
• Backup your database
• Copy security plugin WP DB

Run a local installation of WordPress on your computer. Yes, even Joe Average to do this to test plugins and themes before using them on a production site (alternatively, you can perform a test installation in a subdirectory of your website):

• Setting up Xampp and WordPress

Be sure to try the plugins with the betas and release candidates WordPress puts out in its installation local and / or live test site.

If a plug-in or theme does not work with a new version, try contacting the author to see if there's a solution the latest version of WP. Or at least they know there is a problem. Maybe they're not even aware of it.

Another helpful tip might be to see a plugin or theme author's site before using their stuff. Some people may not be dedicated to his work, which is perfectly fine, but as a user, you may want some assurance. Check out what they have done and how to participate are within the WordPress community. Maybe that plugin author made a simple plugin and never made plans to update plug-in at all.

Some tips for authors of plugins and theme

Any plugin or theme author worth his salt should have a configuration local running the latest version of WordPress. You can use the tutorial on setting up WordPress to Xampp. It's simple.

Familiarize WordPress Trac. That's all the documentation you'll ever need to see where changes are made to the WordPress core code.

The use of Subversion with WordPress. You can pull the latest development version of WordPress on your computer. Ptah Dunbar also has a good article on using Subversion. I I personally use Tortoise SVN to control changes, both within my themes and plugins and keep my current version of WordPress on my computer.

Finally, establish support forums plugins or themes. bbPress is extremely easy to configure. It is much easier to find errors quickly if you have a community surrounding their work. Trust me, that will let you know if something is broken.
